Retirement after 60 years

Terry Sleeman Retires from Brass Banding After Nearly 60 Years

After almost 60 years, our solo Baritone player Terry Sleeman has announced his retirement from playing.

Terry began his journey with the St. Dennis Youth Band and during his brass band career has contributed significantly and played for many well-known Cornish Championship section bands, including Mount Charles, St. Austell, and Camborne.

A significant portion of his career was spent with the St. Dennis Band, where he has played for the last 12 years and for 35 years in total. His final performance was at the Portscatho Regatta on August 24th, marking the end of a very significant chapter.

Terry’s dedication to Cornish brass banding was recognized with a Long Service Award from the Cornwall Brass Band Association, which was presented to him in February 2023 at the Cornish Festival of Brass at Newquay.

Terry has been an inspiring figure in Cornish brass banding, and his retirement marks the end of a remarkable era.

On behalf of the Cornish Brass Banding community, we would like to thank him for his many years of service and wish him a very well-deserved and happy retirement! 🍷🎶
