CBBA Hat-trick for both St Dennis Senior and Youth Bands
On Saturday 5th April both St Dennis Senior and Youth Bands competed at the Cornwall Brass Band Association 53rd Annual Brass Band Contest held at Truro Methodist Church. The Adjudicator for the contest was Mr. Philip Harper. Both Bands were out to defend their titles which they have held for the last two years.
The Youth Band performed 'Diamond Heritage' by Darrol Barry in the Own Choice Youth Section. The Band put on an excellent performance which led to them winning the section by 5 points. As well as winning the section the Youth Band were also awarded prizes for the Best Percussion Section in the Junior/Youth Sections, Best Bass Section of the day and Flugel Horn Player Zoe Hancock was also awarded Best Soloist in the Youth Section and also Best Player of the day.
The Senior Band competed in the Open Entertainment Section. They opened their programme with the John Williams favourite 'Olympic Fanfare and Theme'. This was then followed by 'March Celebration', Soprano Cornet Solo 'On With the Motley', upbeat 'Comedy Tonight' from 'A Funny Thing happened on the way to the Forum', 'In Perfect Peace' and 'There is nothing like a Dame'. The band concluded their programme with the popular concert finisher 'Glorifico Aeternum'.
The band secured their title with an impressive 4 point lead. As well as winning the section, Andrew Julian (Soprano Cornet) was awarded the Best Soloist Award and the Cornet section received the award for 'The Best Cornet Section of the Day'.
