Indian Queens Band Annual Solo and Quartet Contest
On Saturday 29th September, Indian Queens Band held its annual Solo and Quartet contest at Indian Queens Chapel. The adjudicator for all classes was Mr Vivian Willcock. Thanks must go to Mr Stephen Watts who accompanied all soloists throughout the day.
Six players from St Dennis Band competed at the contest, each gaining one or more prizes in many of the classes. Additional Special awards were also awarded to many of the players.
Stacie Hill (Cornet - Senior/Youth Bands) entered four classes. From these, she was awarded three 1st placings (15 Years and under, 18 Years and under and Open Aire Varie classes) and a 3rd place in the Open slow melody class. She was also awarded the Clifford Sharp Trophy for the Best Cornet of the day.
Zoe Hancock (Flugel - Senior/Youth Bands) gained a 1st in the Open Slow Melody and 2nd place in the Open Aire Varie. She was joined by her sister Dany Hancock (Horn - Senior/Youth Bands) where they won the Open Duet Class. Dany also gained a 2nd placing for her solo performance in the 15 years and under class. Zoe received the Barberry Trophy for the Best Horn/Flugel of the day.
Brendan Caddy (Soprano Cornet - Youth Band) was awarded 2nd place in the 12 Years and Under class and 3rd place in the 18 Years and Under class. He also received an award for 'The most promising player from classes 1 and 2'.
Chloe George (Cornet - Junior Band) was the Youngest Player of the Day receiving the Cath Yelland Trophy plus 1st place in the 9 Years and Under class and 3rd place in the 12 Years and Under Class. Amy Spry (Cornet - Junior Band) was awarded 2nd place for her solo in the 9 Years and Under solo class.
Congratulations to all six players who represented the Band so well.
