Bugle Band Contest 2007

Both Youth and Senior Bands competed at the West of England Bandsmen's Festival held at Molinnis Park, Bugle on Saturday 16th June.

The Youth Band performed the set work "Music for a Festival" by Philip Sparke. Despite the sudden downpour of rain during their performance they won the section receiving the W.D Lawton Memorial Trophy plus £150, 3 clear points ahead of local rivals Mount Charles. Kimberley Bazeley received the Ron Prout Memorial Trophy for the Best Player from the section which was thoroughly deserved. Brian Minear received the E.J Williams Memorial Trophy as the Winning Conductor of the Youth section.

This year saw the decision for the Senior Band to compete in the Championship Section. The Band had to perform a set March (Celebration) followed by the set test piece, Le Carnival Romain. St Dennis were drawn to play number 2 from the eight competing bands. Both the march and the test piece were performed to a very high standard. Special mention must go to Kim Bazeley for her important solo lines within the test piece that she played with ease. The adjudicator Dennis Wilby awarded the band 3rd place for the March receiving the Thomas Brenton Challenge Cup and 4th for the Test piece receiving £200. This was an excellent achievement for the band.

Andrew Julian received the E.J Jacob Memorial Trophy and Josie Brewer received the Maurice Wedlake Memorial Trophy - A.R Trudgian Youth Awards nominated by the Cornwall Youth Brass Band Committee.
