Musical Director - Brian Minear
Brian Minear was appointed Musical Director of the St Dennis Band commencing March 2001. The band achieved instant success when they gained the runner up place in the South West Regional 4th Section Finals, thus qualifying to compete at The National Finals in September.
Brian is from a musical family, traced back to his great grand parents, and music is a major part of his family life, with his wife being a cornet player and his two daughters both being accomplished musicians.
His association with Brass Bands commenced at an early age and his first Brass Band contest was with the Stenalees Silver Band where he played cornet. He very soon was accepted in the Cornwall Youth Brass Band with whom he held the Principal Cornet position for a period of six years.
In 1962 he joined The St Dennis Band who were then the premier band in the South West of England, and during a 20 year period until 1981 he was their Principal Cornet Player, later their Solo Euphonium player and was for a time their assistant conductor.
In 1982 he helped form a new band in Cornwall Kernow Brass for whom he was Solo Euphonium and assistant conductor.
He has been M.D. for musicals in Cornwall, but this is his first Brass Band M.D. appointment and it is his aim to assist and guide the enthusiastic group of young musicians to re-establish "THE ST DENNIS BAND" as a major force in the Brass Band world.
