- Lee Wylde (Solo Cornet)
Lee started playing the cornet at the age of 6 after hearing Philip McCann in concert. First joining his local junior band in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and becoming principal cornet at the age of 11. After a short spell with JS Brass on principal under the direction of Russell Gray, he joined the Meltham and Meltham Mills Band at the age of 17, also on principal cornet. They were first section at the time and directed by John Clough.
Lee swiftly moved on and by the age of 18 he joined the Black Dyke Band on 2nd cornet under the baton of James Watson. Whilst with Black Dyke Lee played at many venues, the highlight being at the British Open when they competed as the reigning champions and were placed second. During this time the band were featured in the centre pages of the Brass Band World and Lee proudly played on his first CD recording.
After a two year break Lee briefly played with the Marple Band under Gary Cutt, before joining the Sellers Band on 2nd cornet and quickly moving onto repiano cornet.
With Sellers, Lee played under the direction of several professional conductors including Philip McCann, Alan Morrison, Frank Renton and Richard Evans. Lee spent five enjoyable years with the band and competed at contests such as the Nationals, British Open, Masters, Swiss Open and Brass in Concert. He also played on further CD recordings and for TV. During this period notable highlights were playing under Major Peter Parkes, sitting next to Peter Roberts and playing flugel at Brass in Concert.
Having moved to Cornwall, Lee has continued to play. Enjoying a spell at Mount Charles Band on the front row and Bodmin Band on principal cornet before joining St Dennis Band on Principal Cornet.
Lee has already enjoyed two years with St Dennis and hopes to be a part of the bands continued success. Two highlights so far, playing English Heritage at the Areas under Philip Harper and being placed second at Prestatyn, playing Les Preludes under Darren Hawken.
- Bianca Harman (Solo Cornet)
Bianca started to play the cornet at the age of 7 with the Mount Charles Youth Band. She progressed into the Senior band at the age of 11 and continued here for 14 years. After taking a short break out of banding she joined the ranks at St Dennis in January 2010. Bianca's banding highlights include Playing at the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and representing Cornwall in the Millenium Festival held at Leeds in 2000. She also won BBC Radio 2 soloist of the year in 2002.
Bianca enjoys a challenge and is setting to embark on a challenge of a lifetime to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in August 2011 (www.justgiving.com/kernowtokilimanjaro) / (www.KernowToKilimanjaro.co.uk)
- Matthew Brewer (Solo Cornet)
- James Hammett (Solo Cornet)
James started playing cornet at the age of 11 in 2005 in Mount Charles Youth’s “Little Stars” under Bianca Harman (nee Davies), progressing into Mount Charles Youth Band shortly after. In 2007 he also joined the Cornwall Youth Brass Band and progressed to the front row of Mount Charles Youth. 2008 saw a move to a successful St. Breward under Garry Lannie on repiano.
However, in 2009, James made the move to St. Dennis Band. Currently, he is playing front row for CYBB and is happily settled in the outstanding cornet section at St. Dennis. He is also a member of the Junior and Youth bands. He was extremely proud to be principal cornet for the Youth Band at Bugle 2010. James continues to enjoy solo and quartet contests and achieved grade 8 cornet in 2010. James is currently studying at Truro College and enjoys electric guitar and bass as well as skiing.
