On Saturday 18th June St Dennis Band competed at the 87th West Of England Bandsmen's Festival (Bugle Contest).
The day commenced with the traditional March down through the village to the Contest field which thankfully the rain held off for.
Battling brutal windy weather conditions on stage, the Band presented fine performances of both the Set Hymn 'Ave Verum' and Test piece 'Carnival Overture' which certainly impressed many of the audience as well as the adjudicator William Relton who awarded the Band Second place, pipped at the post by worthy Winners Camborne Town Band by a narrow margin of one point. The Band also received Second place for the Set Hymn, which was won by the Mount Charles Band.
The Band must thank both Darren Hawken and Leonard Adams who both invested a large amount of time and effort into preparing the Band for this Contest over the last few weeks. It has been a busy contesting season for the Band in which progression has been highly evident.
